Introduction to Yoga Meditation

A gentle introduction to a meditative movement yoga class.  We will work together to develop a practice that is right for your body. 

Don’t feel like your flexible enough or strong enough?  Perfect, come and explore your body.


What to Bring

  • Comfortable, stretchy clothes that you are able to move in.  Avoid baggy clothes.
  • A yoga mat (We have extra if you don’t have one.)

  • Water bottle
  • Your curiosity

The Container

First we will discuss what we want out of class today. 
Next, we will learn some Ashtanga Yoga.  We will integrate this with body awareness meditation.  Can we feel our bodies deeply as we move and breath?  Can the different parts of our bodies work together, making choices from our core?

We close our yoga with a lying down meditation, Shavasana.  You will have to opportunity to receive Healing Energy work in Shavasana.  If interested, I will put my hands on your forehead and the back of your neck.  Physical contact is always a choice.
Finally, we will close with a short discussion, claiming what we have experienced in class today.


This class is an introduction to the style of Flow Yoga called Ashtanga.

The precursor to Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga links every movement to a breath.  Earlier positions warm you up for the ones that follow.

In this class we will go slow, investigating our bodies using the Ashtanga primary series as a guide.  Where are we holding in our bodies and why?  Can we bring awareness to these places and change our perspective?

We will focus on body awareness while we learn these yoga positions.  Vipassana meditation, simply feeling the body one part at a time, will guide us here.  Can we feel what is real?

This class explores “what does my body need now?”  This gentle line of questioning comes from the Niasziih healing tradition.  Pronounced Ni-a-zee-EYE, Niasziih means vessel of healing and is an Apache lineage.  In this modality we learn how to make more deep contact with ourselves in order to make choices from our core.

Combining Ashtanga yoga, Vipassana meditation, and Niasziih healing, strong lineages hold space for this class.
